Away from Oxford Street's carnival carry-on, Pink Peppercorn is all calm understated class. Chocolate-box pinks and creams match the mahogany furniture. Monks robed in orange smile down from the walls and hot-pink napkins colour tables. Its informal and minimalist, letting the food do the talking. Anouvong Kaseum's beautifully presented dishes fuse Lao flavours (think Thai with less kick) and Western influence. It really is a cuisine of its own distinction. Helen Greenwood stated in her review of the Best Restaurants of 2004 for the Sydney Morning Herald, "I'd not encountered Laotian food before eating at the Pink Peppercorn and now am hooked (so are the friends I have taken)." Tables here are as hot as the pink napkins - and pink is definitely the new black.
