Quietly tucked away among a row of quaint shophouses in Chinatown, Magma German Wine Bistro provides authentic German dishes from the different regions of Germany cooked by well experienced German chefs. Magma has a strong focus on German wines, more than 250 different labels in more than 25 varieties will be directly imported from 30 of the best German wine makers.
This unpretentious open-kitchen restaurant has a friendly bar area at the front where one can enjoy a few drinks as well as an attached store selling all manner of German delicacies. Apart from the familiar pork knuckles which are marinated for several days and oven baked, and the sausages there are many unknown, but delicious dishes and exquisite desserts. Signature dishes are e.g. the "Flammkuchen", a crispy and thin German "Pizza" with sour cream instead of tomato and different delicious toppings, "Sauerbraten" sour marinated braised beef, Pan fried female Wild Boar, Rainbow Trout, Beef Goulash and "Maultaschen" (with minced mushrooms stuffed Swabian dumplings). Magma wines come from all 13 wine regions of Germany.
When one ambles up the lane with rows of shop-houses lining both sides of Bukit Pasoh Street, a feeling of serenity is experienced at Magma. White walls contrast against bright red table-cloths and dark brown wood is used in the interior, perhaps suggesting that Magma is attempting to adopt a national flavour around its restaurant's décor through the use of Singapore's national colours - red and white. Of course, red and white also meant red wine and white wine, both of which German wineyards are famous for.
